Who this is for

Built for brands guessing at which terms to chase

A catalogueProducts to research, not one idea

A term set earns its keep when it feeds several listings and the campaigns behind them.

ExpandingA new product or a new marketplace

Every marketplace has its own vocabulary, so a ported term set indexes for the wrong words.

RegisteredSearch Query Performance available

Brand Analytics is the closest thing to ground truth Amazon publishes. Useful, not required.

GuessingNo mapped keyword set yet

If nobody can say which term each listing is meant to win, that is the gap this closes.

The problem

Why your keyword list is not working

The list comes from a toolGoogle volume, not Amazon search data
Terms compete with each otherThe same word in three places at once
You bid on words nobody typesSpend proving a term has no buyers
The difference

What we do differently

Four decisions that separate a term set from a keyword export.

  1. Point 1. Amazon data, not Google

    Its own suggestions

Seeds come from the product. Expansion comes from Amazon’s own search suggestions, related searches and the terms the ranking competitor set is indexed for.

  2. Point 2. Checked, not estimated

    Brand Analytics

Third-party volume estimates are cross-checked against your Search Query Performance data where you have it — the closest thing to ground truth Amazon publishes.

  3. Point 3. Grouped by intent

    Four kinds of term

Head, attribute, use-case and competitor terms are separated before anything is mapped, because each one is bid and placed differently.

  4. Point 4. A workbook you own

    Not a subscription

Delivered in a format a copywriter or a media buyer can work straight from, with or without us.

Amazon backend keywords, and why they differ from Google

Google search is a mix of intents. Someone typing “running shoes” might be buying, comparing, reading a review or looking for a shop near them. Amazon search is one intent: buying, now. That changes which words matter and how much each one is worth.

It also changes the shape of the tail. Amazon buyers use specific, attribute-heavy phrases — size, colour, compatibility, quantity — because they are filtering a shelf rather than asking a question. Those phrases rarely register on Google tools at all.

The marketplace layer on top of that: every Amazon marketplace has its own volume distribution and its own vocabulary. Research run on one marketplace’s data and applied to a listing in another produces a term set that looks thorough and indexes for the wrong things.

Amazon backend search terms, listings and advertising

The same set does both jobs. Terms mapped to title and bullets drive organic rank; terms mapped to paid become the exact-match campaigns in PPC management. Doing the research once, for both, is why the two stop contradicting each other.

Process

How a research project starts

The five stages above are the work. This is how you get to them.

  1. Step 1. Free keyword gap check

You send the category. We check which terms the ranking competitors appear for and you do not, and write it up.

  2. Step 2. Strategy call

Thirty minutes on which gaps are worth chasing and which are not worth the spend.

  3. Step 3. Scope and proposal

How many ASINs and which marketplaces, priced from the published rates. The workbook is yours either way.

  4. Step 4. Research and handover

Seeds, expansion, volume checks, intent grouping and placement mapping — then the workbook.

FAQ

Keyword research questions

Why can't I just use Google keyword data for Amazon?

Because the intent is different. Google volume includes people researching, comparing and reading; Amazon search is almost entirely buyers. A term with high Google volume can have almost no Amazon volume, and Amazon-specific terms often have no Google footprint at all. Using Google data on Amazon systematically targets the wrong words.

What do I actually receive?

A keyword workbook: every term with its estimated marketplace volume and relevance, grouped by intent, and mapped to a placement — title, bullets, backend, or paid-only. Plus the competitor ranking picture for your primary terms and a shortlist of gaps worth attacking.

Do you use Helium 10 or Jungle Scout?

We use tool data as an input, not an answer. Every estimate is cross-checked against Amazon's own search suggestions, the ranking competitor set and, where available, your Search Query Performance data from Brand Analytics — which is the closest thing to ground truth Amazon publishes.

How often should keyword research be redone?

For a stable catalogue, once or twice a year, plus whenever you launch a product or a competitor changes the category. Seasonal categories need a refresh before each season. Redoing it monthly is usually agency busywork rather than something the data justifies.
