Pattern check · runs in your browserThe rules this checks against
Amazon's Community Guidelines and Seller Code of Conduct are the authority. The patterns below are the ones that cause the most enforcement, and the ones we find most often in inserts sellers have already printed.
| Compliant | Breaches policy |
|---|---|
| “Thank you for your order. If you have a moment, we would value your honest review.” | “Happy with your order? Leave us a review. Not happy? Contact us first.” |
| A thank-you gift sent with every order, whatever the customer does next. | “Send us a screenshot of your review to claim your free sample.” |
| “Questions about setup? Use Amazon’s Contact Seller button and we will reply within a day.” | A QR code on the insert leading to a private feedback form instead of Amazon. |
| One neutral follow-up through Request a Review. | A second email chasing buyers who have not yet reviewed, with an offer attached. |
The three that catch people out
- Gating. Any wording that routes unhappy customers somewhere other than the review box. Sellers usually think of this as good service. Amazon treats it as manipulating the review pool, and enforces on it hard.
- Conditional warranties. Offering an extended warranty for registering is fine. Offering it for reviewing is not, however the sentence is arranged.
- Off-Amazon routing. An insert that sends buyers to your own site to resolve an order breaches the code of conduct even when the intention is helpful.
This is a pattern check, not legal advice. It catches the wording that most commonly triggers enforcement. It cannot catch everything, and Amazon's policies change. If something here surprises you, that is worth a conversation before the insert goes to print — reprinting 10,000 cards is expensive, and a suspension is worse.
Print is the expensive place to find out
The reason this tool exists in this shape is that inserts get printed in quantity. A phrase that would cost nothing to change on a screen becomes a pallet of unusable card, and in the worst version it becomes a policy warning against the account before anyone notices. Running the copy through a check before it goes to the printer costs a minute; the alternative has a lead time measured in weeks.
What catches people is rarely the obvious offer. Almost nobody writes "leave us a five-star review and we'll refund you" any more. What they write is a conditional — help routed one way and feedback routed another, or a gift framed as thanks for a review rather than for the purchase. The direction of the ask is what the policies care about: you may ask for a review, you may not ask for a good one, and you may not make anything contingent on it. Everything this tool flags comes back to that distinction.
This checker sits inside review management, which is monitoring and analysis only — we do not run incentivised review programmes, and the Mojo engagement shows what compliant volume building looked like in practice. The rating calculator covers the arithmetic side.

Questions about this tool
Can I ask for a review at all?
Yes. A neutral request for an honest review, with nothing offered in return and no attempt to steer sentiment, is permitted. Amazon's own Request a Review button is the safest route because the wording is Amazon's rather than yours.
What about asking people to contact us if there is a problem?
Offering support is fine. Asking them to contact you instead of or before leaving a negative review is gating, and it is one of the most enforced violations there is. The distinction is whether the review is conditioned on anything.
Is a discount on their next order allowed?
A discount offered to every customer regardless of whether they review is a marketing offer. A discount offered in connection with a review is an incentivised review. Keep the two completely unconnected, including in the layout of the card.
What happens if we have already printed non-compliant inserts?
Stop distributing them. The cost of pulping a print run is far less than a suspension, and enforcement can arrive months after the insert shipped. We rewrite inserts as part of review management — see the service page for how that works.
